Artsplosure
Location: Moore Square Downtown Raleigh, NC
Event Dates: 5/15/2010 - 5/16/2010

Artsplosure's mission is to produce high quality annual festivals that celebrate excellence in the performing and visual arts; to promote and bring recognition to national, regional, and local artists; and to bring artists and the larger community together to improve the quality of life and cultural environment.

Artsplosure was conceived in 1978 by subcommittees of the newly formed City of Raleigh Arts Commission who were planning a citywide arts festival that would combine an "explosion" of art activity with people's "exposure" to all types of art. The following year, Artsplosure was incorporated to produce high quality and accessible arts festivals and to identify, nurture, and showcase artists seeking to reach wider audiences. Since its first festival in April 1980, Artsplosure has presented thousands of established and emerging artists whose works span across many disciplines and art forms in both traditional and non-traditional indoor venues and outdoor settings.

In 2010, the Columbus Arts Festival presented by Time Warner Cable—now a three-day show—will celebrate its 49th year of bringing the best in fine art and fine craft to downtown Columbus, Ohio. Approximately 230 national and international artists are selected from over 1,200 applicants for coveted positions along the streets of our downtown location in the Discovery District - home to arts organizations such as the Columbus Museum of Art, Columbus State Community College, the Columbus College of Art and Design, Thurber House, the Topiary Garden and Kelton House.

The festival offers an eclectic and vibrant atmosphere in which to buy and sell original work—and the opportunity for patrons and artists to meet face to face. The Artists' Market is certainly the heart of the festival, but there are plenty of exciting attractions for everyone to enjoy including live music, poetry, theatrical performances, and a host of hands-on art activities for both children and adults. Patrons and participants alike rave about the food vendors—representing some of Columbus' finest restaurants, as well as national and international food offerings.
